Heartlinks Grief Center (a branch of Family Hospice) is seeking volunteers to give just 4 hours a month to help children, teens, and families, who are dealing with grief and loss. At Heartlinks we train lay-people to act as companions to children, teen and adults traversing their individual journeys with grief. Many of our programs/volunteer opportunities require training and regular volunteer activity but we have other opportunities for people to lend support on a one-time basis:
The next training will be: Thursday, August 31st – 6:00 -8:00 pm The evening will consist of playing games, learning about loss and discovering hope.
Monthly Group Night:
We have a Monthly Group Night the first Monday of each month (holiday exceptions). We will train you at a Volunteer Training 101 to act as companions to children, teens, and adults with their journeys with grief. Grief expressions, positive behavior, and the journey.
Pop-up Events and Fundraisers:
Throughout the year we have a regular need for support of our pop-up happenings. These are usually one time fundraising, workshop or other chances for our families, children and adult to come together and do some socializing with people who understand. Heartlinks is also able to raise funding this way to continue making our programs accessible for the entire community.
We call some of our events “fun”raisers because any money we make is just a bonus. Really it is an opportunity for our kids to get together at a very difficult time and have some fun. If we raise some money, that is a bonus.
Holiday Memories Party
Holidays are another difficult time for grieving kids and families. We have an annual event at Fairview Heights Fire station Number One. It brings are families together to remember and have fun. We can always use help with crafts and cookie decoration. We usually require 12 dozen, cut-out, un-iced sugar cookies for this event. The first Saturday of December.
We have regular trainings that last 2.5 hours to introduce you to educational information about child, adult, and family grief as well as basics about the Heartlinks Grief Center and our programs. These programs occur 2 to 3 times a year. We also have more specialized trainings that occur through-out the year. Call to get involved in our next training!
Heartlinks volunteer can be anyone 13 and up.
We share a meal together before all groups.
We have a great time while we build a community of hope and support for grieving kids and individuals.
You do not have to have had a loss yourself to be an awesome volunteer.
Heartlinks is a flexible, fun environment to work in. Background checks are provided!!
